KJV 14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction. CEV 14 If you have good sense, you will learn all you can, but foolish talk will soon destroy you.

9. Controls lips, tongue

Proverbs 10:10
KJV 10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall. CEV 10 Deceit causes trouble, and foolish talk will bring you to ruin.

Proverbs 17:28
KJV 28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. CEV 28 Even fools seem smart when they are quiet.

Proverbs 11:29
KJV 29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart. CEV 29 Fools who cause trouble in the family won't inherit a thing. They will end up as slaves of someone with good sense.

KJV 1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. CEV 1 A woman's family is held together by her wisdom, but it can be destroyed by her foolishness.

Proverbs 14:16
KJV 16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident. CEV 16 Only a stupid fool is never cautious — so be extra careful and stay out of trouble.

Proverbs 15:2
KJV 2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness. CEV 2 Words of wisdom come from the wise, but fools speak foolishness.

KJV 7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so. CEV 7 Words of wisdom make good sense; the thoughts of a fool make no sense at all.

KJV 22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof. CEV 22 One wise person can defeat a city full of soldiers and capture their fortress.

KJV 5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength. CEV 5 Wisdom brings strength, and knowledge gives power.

KJV 7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father. CEV 7 It makes good sense to obey the Law of God, but you disgrace your parents if you make friends with worthless nobodies.

KJV 8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath. CEV 8 Sneering at others is a spark that sets a city on fire; using good sense can put out the flames of anger.

23. Controls self in strife

Proverbs 29:11
KJV 11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. CEV 11 Don't be a fool and quickly lose your temper — be sensible and patient.
